Cigar Review – @LaRosaDeSandiego Connecticut Toro Gordo

La Rosa de Sandiego, produced by #AmericanCaribbeanCigars, made their debut at the 2015 @TheIPCPR Trade Show. With La Rosa de Sandiego, American Caribbean Cigars – best known for producing cigars for brands such as Gurkha, Toraño and Leccia Tobacco – has finally released their very own cigar brand.

A friend of mine gifted me the Connecticut Toro Gordo after we spent the evening eating Cuban food and drink to celebrate the death of Comrade Fidel. Hailing from #Esteli, #Nicaragua, the La Rosa de Sandiego Toro Gordo features fillers of Nicaragua and Pennsylvania, an Ecuadorian binder, and an Ecuadorian #Connecticut Wrapper. The light brown Connecticut Shade wrapper of the cigar is extraordinarily thin – like gossamer, with a thin sheen of oil. Veins are also very thin, with the minimally visible seams.

Cutting produces aromas of wood, cream, pepper and a note of citrus. Lighting added a bit of cedar to the mix and warmed the pepper to have a bit of spice. The citrus yields to the wood and cream. The cigar stays at a medium body, and medium strength throughout. The burn line was jagged throughout, requiring many touchups, but the draw was fine.

Overall, a decent cigar. I may have gotten the cigar a bit too soon. Perhaps with a long rest in the humidor, some truly delectable flavors and notes could emerge, as the blend has additional time to mature. Maybe another year. I’ll have to revisit at a later date. I rate it at 84.
