Cigar Review: @Caldwell4prez The King Is Dead The Last Payday (Toro)

I recently stopped in @MikesCigarRoom and picked up the Caldwell The King Is Dead The Last Payday (Toro) to enjoy in the cozy lounge. A Dominican Negrito wrapper holds the Dominican binder and fillers which make up this cigar, and the blend and balance are critical to the excellence of this cigar. A straight cut to remove the torpedo tip. The pre-light draw reveals a mix of cocoa, fruit, tobacco, leather, some spice and sweetness.

Lighting offers up a burst of spice, followed closely by notes of cedar, leather, tobacco, chocolate, and cream. The burn line goes a bit wonky, but the draw remains great. A couple of touch-ups correct the issues. The cigar is very Dominican – smooth, not dramatic. Additional notes include wood, bread, salt, and citrus.

Overall, a good cigar. Excellently balanced and blended. A range of flavors that complement each other very well without overwhelming the palate. I rate it at 90.
