Padrón 1964 Anniversary Torpedo Natural

August has arrived, and with it, the worst of the Texas summer heat. That being said, it is a cause for celebration, as summer is almost over – kids will be going back to school soon, and wonderful fall will soon be here. I was inspired to head outside to relax by the pool, in the cool shade of my deck, an outdoor ceiling fan keeping me comfortable, and an iced tea spiked with whiskey offering refreshment. Of course, I needed a great cigar to complete the experience, so I pulled a @PadronCigars 1964 Anniversary Torpedo Natural out of my humidor, where it had been resting for almost a year.
The box-pressed Padrón 1964 Anniversary Torpedo Natural is a stunning Figurado cigar, with an expertly applied, nearly seamless wrapper and triple cap. Made with all-Nicaraguan tobaccos aged at least 4 years, the cigar offers notes of cocoa, spice, espresso, and a flavor not unlike creamy dulce de leche.
The draw was perfect, but this was offset by a burn line that was a bit crooked during the first half of the smoke. Flavors of cocoa, espresso, floral notes, and some element of citrus (tangerine?) form a great bouquet, with a bit of peppery spiciness accenting the notes, all carried along with a wave of creaminess that helps to balance the flavors and give them body in mouth feel. Strength remains medium-bodied, while the flavors remain consistent.
Overall, a great smoke. Perfect for an early morning with a great cup of coffee, a flavorful glass of cold iced tea. I would rate the cigar a 90.
