Flor de las Antillas Belicoso

That feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you get bad news? Really bad. That feeling you get when the news is updated and it turns out everything will be okay? Fantastic.
I got a phone call that my nephew had been hurt in a work accident; later we got a call from the hospital that everything was alright, and he would be released that very day. Nothing a few stitches couldn’t handle. I headed out to the deck to light up a Cigar of Relief, a Flor de las Antillas Belicoso (5 1/2 x 52) from @myfathercigars in hand.
The Flor de las Antillas Belicoso is one of the most beautiful cigars I’ve ever seen. The wrapper on this Nicaraguan puro is flawlessly sun grown, a stunning rosado with few veins, accented by an artistically gorgeous band and burgundy foot ribbon which serve to really distinguish this cigar as a labor of love and art.
The Belicoso starts out with a gorgeous bouquet of sweet cinnamon and bread, which give way to flavors of wood, leather, cacao, hay and coffee, with a hint of white pepper and a bit of sweetness rounding it out. Voluminous white smoke clouds fill the air; their redolent perfume elevating the experience. Bit of an open draw, but the burn line is tight and on point.
A note of some nuts – almonds? nutmeg? – shows up briefly, but not long enough to pin down. I’ll have to try another one again soon to compare. I get so relaxed sometimes, I forget to keep notes.
The Belicoso comes in as a medium-full body. Not overpowering at all, but a nicely smooth, great body. Flavors blended well, not allowing for one note to dominate any other for too long, allowing a real sense of harmony top develop. There are times when you need a good, smooth, mellow cigar to take the edge off and allow you to relax. This is one of those smokes. #Chill.
Overall, a great smoke – perfect for a moment of relaxation and reflection, like when you think about the important things in life, like family and friends. I would rate the cigar a 90. A good cigar to keep for these moments in any humidor.
