The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story is in constant, ready supply in my humidor. By far my favorite short smoke, and one of my favorite smokes overall. The 4 1/2 x 48 perfecto is literally just that; an attractive figurado that provides a smooth and flavorful smoke, from a blend of West African Cameroon wrapper and Dominican filler and binder, aged properly for six months or more. The classic Arturo Fuente red and black band accentuates the medium dark Cameroon wrapper.
The Cameroon wrapper provides a sweet note to the cigar, both in the pre-light and upon lighting the perfecto tip, which lights easily. The burn and draw are ideal from the start. Great tobacco flavor tinged with nuts, grass and a bit of pepper, bringing a trace of boldness to the cigar. The strength is in the mild to medium range throughout. The excellent draw yields a full body of rich, cool, smoke that leaves a luscious mouthfeel on each puff. The burn is nearly razor sharp, holding tightly onto the firm ash, which doesn’t flake or fall off on its own.
The Short Story’s finish on the palate is savory, oily and rich; a refined and balanced taste with notes of cedar, spice, a touch of leather, cocoa and lovely tobacco. The construction, tight and well-crafted, performs well throughout. The Short Story is a great cigar to keep on hand not only for those moments when time is a consideration, but when the desire for the brief taste of a superior smoke comes calling.
